Wrap up of the Single Cell Biology conference in Cambridge

The Single Cell Biology conference took place last week in Cambridge, UK. Paul Oakley, our Regional Manager for the UK, and Muriel Breteau, one of our Application Specialists, were lucky enough to join this meeting. The conference had an excellent array of speakers, with talks from some of the best-known names in the single cell community, including: Sarah Teichmann, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute; Bertie Goettgens, University of Cambridge; Timm Schroeder, ETH Zurich; and Sten Linnarsson, Karolinska Institute…to name a few.

High throughput Single RNA-Seq  poster presentation

Following on from an array of excellent talks, Tuesday evening concluded with poster presentations. Dolomite Bio presented a poster on High Throughput Single Cell RNA-Seq which reports the results obtained from the encapsulation of cells with barcoded beads for single-cell RNA sequencing using the Dolomite Bio Nadia Instrument. The poster showed the single cell solution produced highly monodisperse droplets with a low doublet rate. It was also shown that the gentle stirring of beads and cells on the Nadia chips maintained beads and cells in suspension, facilitated encapsulation, and did not damage the beads. A high quality single cell DNA library was obtained from use of the Nadia instrument and this gave rise to a dataset which, after NGS- analysis, was deemed to be of a high quality.

During lunchtime on the second day of the meeting, Dolomite Bio ran a workshop on Single Cell RNA-seq and Single Cell Protocol Development. This workshop was focused on how to perform single cell research with the Nadia Instrument. There was a high level of engagement at the workshop, with attendees particularly enthused about the flexibility that is offered when the Nadia system is used with the Nadia Innovate. This is something that gives people the opportunity to develop their own protocols and applications based on their specific needs. We are running lots more workshops in the upcoming months, so keep an eye on our workshop page for all upcoming locations.

The conference ended Thursday lunchtime, but not before three more great sessions covering the hot topics of immunology and stems cells.
